War Puputan Klungkung

This monument is a symbol of the struggle of the people of the kingdom of Klungkung against the Dutch colonial nation that occurred on Tuesday 28 April 1908.

In the same year, at kusamba, an area in the eassten part of klungkung, there was also a battle between company’s soldier agaist the people of kusamba. The company’s soldiers was led by general michel and the people of kusamba were led bya lady whose name was ida i dewa agung istri kania. General michel was dead in that battle because of being Stabbed by magic creese of the king of klungkung kingdom.

The monument that stands 128 m2 diareal has a height of 28 m. the shape of this monument is the same as the monument -the warning memorials that existed are dug and characterize the Balinese artworks, which consist of “Lingga and Yoni”.

At the bottom of the phallus there is a room that is equipped with berpapura entrance bergapura as many as 4 pieces that are interconnected with each other. The door is located on the north, east, south and west of the building of the phallus at the bottom

Inside this monument, there are various stories of the life of the era of the Kingdom of Klungkung, starting from the socio-economic life of his people, the development of art and culture, until this kingdom chose to fight and eventually had to surrender to the Dutch colonialism. The stories are arranged neatly on the inside walls of the monument, complete with illustrations of small statues of how the event occurred.

The shape of this monument is said to refer to the concept of Lingga-Yoni with a height of 28 meters, 4 doors and eight steps. “This number has a meaning 28-4-1908, as the event Puputan Klungkung, in which there is a statue of King Klungkung Ida I Dewa Agung Jambe along with his loyal followers and the story of the Klungkung people’s struggle in the battle against the Dutch.
